The 5 Benefits of Home Workouts And Why They're Here To Stay

Home workouts - top 5 benefits

In 2020, when the COVID-19 global pandemic started affecting people worldwide, everyone's daily routines were suddenly flipped upside down to protect themselves and others. Many people who before the pandemic were avid fitness enthusiasts or yoga studio frequenters were forced to adapt to "the new normal" as gyms and yoga studios shut their doors indefinitely. This meant trying to navigate questions such as: "how do I stay healthy and in shape at home?", "is it worth it to buy home workout equipment?" and "how do I stay motivated when working out at home?".

It is a well-known fact that exercise is great for your physical and mental well-being, which in adapting to the uncertain world of the past few years has become even more crucial. It seems that life is now slowly "going back to normal", but people are still hesitant to go back to crowded gyms. Either people have gotten used to working out from home, are hesitant to be in crowded spaces or don’t want to get locked into an expensive gym membership again. Trust us, we see the benefits of home workouts, and that's why we believe they are here to stay. Here are our top 5 reasons why:

1. Home workouts will save you time

We all live busy lives, and especially now that our home and work lives are overlapping more than ever, it can be hard to find the separation between the two and find a sustainable work-life balance. Depending on where your gym is located, your commute there could take anywhere from ten minutes to an hour of your day. When you are working out from home, your commute is non-existent, and you don't have to deal with traffic or with waiting for other gym-goers to finish using the equipment you want to use. Working out from home can save you valuable time which you can use to be with your family, dedicate to your hobbies or you can spend more time relaxing.

2. Home workouts will help you save money

Sure, there are some upfront costs to creating a home gym or home workout environment, but that all depends on what kind of workouts you plan on doing. If you plan on doing mostly bodyweight-based workouts such as High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) or yoga and Pilates, a good workout mat is all you really need! Moreover, if you do invest in a proper home gym set up, in the long term, a home gym will save you a significant amount of money compared to a gym membership. Not only will you be saving on the membership fees, service charges and long-term commitments, but you'll also be saving gas money, and wear and tear on your vehicle.

3. Say goodbye to bacteria from strangers

Most gyms have pretty stringent sanitation procedures in place, this was even the case before the pandemic, however, there is no guarantee every person at the gym adheres to these procedures at all times. Going to a public gym, where multiple people are working out together in a confined space, will increase your exposure to bacteria and germs. The benefit of working out at home is that you are in charge of keeping your workout space sanitary to your own standards and you know who has used the equipment.

4. Be flexible

Working out from home provides you with so much more flexibility than working out at a gym. You can squeeze in a workout whenever it suits you and you also don’t have to book in to a yoga or Pilates class because you have thousands of online classes that you can start from your computer or phone at any time. Moreover, you don't have to deal with the commute and stress of getting to the gym on time to beat the after-work rush.

5. Privacy

One of the main benefits of working out from home, in our opinion, is the privacy that you have. You can blast your music as loud as you want, you don't have to worry about other people looking at you and most importantly: you can't compare yourself to anyone else. Your workout is your private time to feel good, get endorphins flowing through your body and do something that's great for your mental and physical health. There is no need to worry about anyone else, this is YOUR time!

We hope these 5 reasons why we believe home workouts are here to stay have made you think about your workout habits and made you consider whether home workouts might be a great alternative to gym workouts. Whichever way you choose to be active, as long as you are moving your body every day in any way, your body will thank you for it!
